Former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has labeled Governor Ademola Adeleke a "political orphan" while claiming the governor is desperately seeking to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Channels TV on Wednesday, Omisore addressed growing speculation about Adeleke's potential defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC. According to Omisore, the governor has been making behind-the-scenes efforts to secure APC membership.
"For the past three years, he has been governing that state, with no single person decamping from APC to PDP," Omisore stated during the interview. "Meanwhile, one over seventh of PDP members have moved to APC, which you know, of course, Alhaji Isa Oyedokun, Dayo Babayemi, Hon. Wole Oke and others are still coming."
The former deputy governor further alleged that Adeleke has been pleading with APC stalwarts, including a southern governor, to facilitate his entry into the party. "Why do you want to force yourself on the party? Why is the governor begging to enter the party? He is struggling, begging and fighting to join APC," Omisore claimed.
These allegations come amid heightened political tension in Osun State. Governor Adeleke's recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu has intensified rumors about his potential party switch, though the governor has not publicly addressed these claims.
Political analysts suggest that if true, such a defection would significantly alter the political landscape in Osun State ahead of future elections. The PDP has maintained control of the state since Adeleke's election, but an exodus of key members to the APC, as claimed by Omisore, could signal shifting political allegiances.
As of the time of reporting, Governor Adeleke's office has not responded to these allegations. BenriNews will continue to monitor this developing story.
