Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has issued a public apology to his colleague, Afeez Owo (Afeez Abiodun), for slapping him during a movie production over two decades ago.
The apology came during Solade's recent appearance on the Behind the Fame African A-List podcast, where he recounted the incident that occurred on a movie set in Ibadan.
According to Solade, the altercation happened when Afeez Owo was serving as the production manager for the film. "Let me apologise to actor Afeez Abiodun who I once slapped many years back. He was the production manager of the movie, it was over 20 years ago but I can't recall the year," Solade stated.
The incident reportedly occurred during a power outage after filming had concluded. Solade explained that frustrations were running high due to the blackout, and as production manager, Afeez became the target of the cast's complaints.
"When we finished filming in Ibadan, there was a blackout. He was the one we would lay our frustrations on as the production manager. It got me infuriated because he wasn't taking me seriously, and that slap came from nowhere, in the dark. I didn't like that," Solade revealed.
Addressing Afeez directly through the podcast, Solade expressed remorse for his actions: "Afeez, I'm sorry don't be offended with me. I have discussed the incident with people before now, but let me just speak to Afeez directly."
This public apology highlights the complex relationships that exist within Nigeria's film industry, where long-standing tensions can sometimes surface years after incidents occur.
Afeez Owo, who is married to actress Mide Funmi-Martins, has yet to publicly respond to Solade's apology.
