Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has revealed a significant conversation he had with former President Muhammadu Buhari regarding President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Buhari's burial in Daura on Tuesday, Radda shared how the late president expressed admiration for Tinubu's bold economic decision.

"Let me use his words: 'I pity Bola (President Tinubu) for what he is doing. He is a brave man for removing the fuel subsidy,'" Radda quoted Buhari as saying.

The late president reportedly acknowledged his own challenges with the same policy decision during his tenure, stating: "When I was president, whenever I made an attempt to remove the subsidy, a lot of people would give me too many reasons not to do so."

According to Radda, Buhari further praised Tinubu's decisive leadership: "But Bola did it immediately. If he had consulted people, he could not have removed the fuel subsidy now."

The revelation provides insight into the relationship between the two Nigerian leaders and highlights the political complexities surrounding the controversial fuel subsidy removal that has significantly impacted Nigeria's economy and citizens' daily lives.

Former President Buhari passed away on Sunday at a London clinic at the age of 82. He was laid to rest on Tuesday at his Daura residence with full military honours, marking the end of an era in Nigerian politics.

Governor Radda also noted that the former President's death has created a vacuum in Nigerian leadership that would be difficult to fill, reflecting the significant impact Buhari had on the nation's political landscape.
