Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has implemented a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting four commissioners while issuing a stern performance warning to others in his administration.
The reshufflement was announced on Tuesday by the newly appointed Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, during a press briefing following Monday's State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.
In a notable development, Governor Nwifuru has given a three-month grace period to the Commissioner for Environment, Victor Chukwu, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Amari Omaka, warning that failure to improve their performance within this timeframe would result in their removal from office.
The cabinet members affected by the reshuffle include:
Engr. Jude Chikadibia Okpor - moved from Information and State Orientation to Commissioner for Rural Development
Ikeuwa Omebe - transferred from Commissioner for Rural Development to Commissioner for Information and State Orientation
Professor Paul Awo Nwobasi - reassigned from Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary) to Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution
Donatus Ilang - moved from Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution to Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary)
The governor emphasized that all appointees should reflect on their performance and recommit to the administration's vision and objectives as outlined in the People's Charter of Needs manifesto, which serves as the blueprint for his government.
As part of ongoing efforts to industrialize the state, the Executive Council also approved the supply and installation of Independent Captive Power Generation Plants. These facilities are designed to provide 24-hour metered electricity to selected public and private industries across the state.
The power project will commence with a three-megawatt plant at ICT University, Oferekpe, Agbaja, marking a significant step toward addressing power challenges in the state's educational and industrial sectors.
Additionally, the council ratified the constitution of a 15-member Ebonyi State Economic Advisory Committee. The committee will be chaired by Prof. Barth Nnaji, with Dr. Ben Odoh serving as secretary, bringing expert guidance to the state's economic development initiatives.
These changes reflect Governor Nwifuru's commitment to enhancing governance efficiency and service delivery in Ebonyi State, with a clear message that performance and results remain paramount in his administration.
