Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group launched a deadly attack on Zogirma village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Friday evening, killing three mobile police officers and injuring several civilians.

According to security reports, the attack occurred around 5:00 pm, coinciding with a scheduled cash distribution event planned for community residents. The assailants, heavily armed and riding in pairs on two motorcycles, stormed the village with apparent intent to intercept the funds.

Fortunately, the team responsible for disbursing the money remained in Bunza town after receiving security alerts about a potential threat, causing them to cancel their trip to Zogirma. Despite failing to intercept the cash, the gunmen proceeded to open fire on civilians.

The three mobile police officers who had been stationed at the village entrance to secure the planned distribution point were shot dead during the attack. Among the civilian casualties, one victim reportedly sustained severe abdominal injuries with exposed internal organs.

This incident marks another concerning episode of violence in Kebbi State, where armed groups have increasingly targeted rural communities. Security analysts have identified the Lakurawa as an emerging threat in the northwestern region.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack or measures being implemented to enhance security in the area. The injured civilians have been transported to medical facilities for treatment.

This attack comes amid growing concerns about rural security across Nigeria's northwestern states, where armed groups have exploited porous borders and challenging terrain to conduct raids on vulnerable communities.
