Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has issued a strong rebuke against what he describes as government inaction in the face of escalating insecurity in Kebbi State, particularly in the Argungu and Zuru Emirates.
In a video message delivered from Birnin Kebbi, Malami expressed profound concern over the deteriorating security situation that has resulted in numerous deaths and displacement of communities across the state.
Government Failure to Protect Citizens
"I wonder how the federal government is not doing enough to protect the lives and properties of citizens, let alone the state and local governments," Malami stated, highlighting what he perceives as a critical failure at all levels of governance.
The former Justice Minister specifically pointed to recent deadly attacks in Zuru, where he claimed more than 200 lives have been lost. He characterized the emergence of "strange systems of insecurity" across Kebbi as both disturbing and alarming.
Call for Coordinated Response
Malami urged the federal, state, and local governments to take immediate, coordinated action to address the security challenges. He emphasized that security matters should not be politicized, stating firmly that "Lives are being lost, the rights of the people are being violated, and their wealth is being destroyed."
According to Malami, Lakurawa elements continue to terrorize communities in Argungu Emirates, while bandits destabilize villages like Kyebu and Tadurga in the Zuru area.
While extending condolences to affected communities, the former Attorney General reiterated the urgent need for proactive measures to prevent further deterioration of the security situation in Kebbi State.
