Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Federal Government of discriminating against states governed by opposition parties, claiming his state has been deliberately sidelined in the distribution of financial interventions and grants.

Speaking at the opening of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed expressed his frustration over what he perceives as unfair treatment.

"The Federal Government has a lot of bias against states governed by opposition parties. Some states are receiving preferential treatment," the governor stated.

Mohammed urged the Federal Government to adopt a fair and non-partisan approach in handling interventions, emphasizing that states should not be punished or rewarded based on their political affiliation.

Financial Challenges and Governance Reforms

Amid worsening financial challenges, the governor cautioned cabinet members against unnecessary trips to Abuja or foreign countries, highlighting the need to reduce governance costs.

"We must prudently manage our scarce resources. The financial pressure is high and we can't afford wasteful spending," he emphasized.

The governor also issued a stern warning against premature political activities, stating, "It is not yet time for politicking. Let us focus on service delivery. Anyone eager to begin political campaigns should resign."

Mohammed directed his commissioners to submit viable proposals for project execution, warning that unutilized funds would be redirected to sectors requiring urgent attention.

"In the next couple of weeks, I'll initiate a virement process to channel funds where they are most needed. We can't sit back while critical sectors suffer," he added.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering impactful governance until the end of his tenure, despite the challenges faced by his administration.

This accusation comes at a time when Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, with recent reports indicating that 16 million Nigerians are now food insecure, according to Federal Government data.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recently commended the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for reform progress and pledged continued support on tax administration, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria's financial situation.
