Tension has gripped the community of Sheshi Dama in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State following a brutal attack on two brothers that left one with a severed hand and the other seriously injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 10, when Baba Gozan and Wada Gozan from Fulani Camp in Etsugaie Village were ambushed while visiting a female acquaintance in the area.
According to Mohammed Umar, father of the victims, the assault was carried out by five young men from another Fulani camp in Kafa Village. The assailants, identified as Goga Maigari, Kura Maigari, Rani Maigari, and Ado Yambe, reportedly used machetes and sticks during the attack.
In the violent encounter, Baba's right hand was completely severed, while his brother Wada sustained severe injuries to his head and right hand. Local residents quickly intervened and rushed both victims to the General Hospital in Agaie, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Police authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the attack, remain at large, with law enforcement actively working to apprehend them.
Community leaders have appealed for calm while urging security agencies to ensure justice is served promptly to prevent potential retaliation that could further disrupt peace in the area.
The motive behind the attack appears to be connected to a dispute over the female acquaintance the brothers were visiting, though authorities have not released official details regarding the exact cause of the conflict.
