Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been discharged from a London hospital and is currently in recovery mode, his spokesman Garba Shehu confirmed on Friday.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Shehu clarified the status of the 82-year-old former Nigerian leader's health condition, noting that his hospitalization was "not as intense as reported."
"Buhari has been discharged. It was not as intense as reported. He was hospitalized, and now he is being cared for. He is in a recovery mode," Shehu stated during the interview.
The former presidential spokesman added: "Each day, he gets better, but until it's all over, you can't say it is over."
Shehu also provided insights into the former president's general health and lifestyle, emphasizing that Buhari maintains healthy habits despite his advanced age.
"He looked much better after leaving the office than before he became president. He is 82, he eats healthy, and exercises regularly," Shehu revealed.
According to the spokesman, Buhari maintains an active lifestyle at his Daura residence, engaging in "one and a half hours of rigorous walking all around" four times weekly.
Shehu further noted that even during the former president's recent visit to the UK for medical checks before his illness, he remained physically active, saying he "flooded the streets" with his walking routine.
While specific details about the nature of Buhari's medical condition were not disclosed, the update provides reassurance about the former president's improving health status following concerns about his hospitalization.
