Former Kaduna State Governor and key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi secretly funded the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 while still serving as a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor.

El-Rufai disclosed that Amaechi provided financial support for CPC's convention despite being a sitting PDP governor of Rivers State at the time.

"Let me tell you people something, in 2011 when we were in CPC, we were to go to convention and we didn't have money," El-Rufai stated. "Amaechi then was governor of Rivers State under the PDP. I don't know how he got to know, then he asked how much was needed to hold the convention, and he gave the money. It was the money we used to organise the 2011 convention."

In response to El-Rufai's revelation, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, criticized Amaechi's political loyalty, pointing out that the former Rivers governor had also led opposition against then-President Goodluck Jonathan while still within the PDP.

"In that 2011, Rotimi Amaechi was a PDP governor. He sponsored CPC then. The same Amaechi led the rebellion against President Goodluck Jonathan," Olayinka wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "That's one of the people talking to you about Kolision."

The exchange highlights the complex political relationships and shifting alliances within Nigerian politics, particularly as discussions about potential coalitions for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.

This revelation comes amid ongoing discussions about political realignments, with various PDP members reportedly considering joining coalition movements. Recently, PDP Southwest caucus denied involvement in any coalition, while Bode George urged party members, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to remain within the PDP rather than joining alternative political arrangements.
