Asa Asika, Davido's manager, has stated that Afrobeats would have achieved greater global success if Nigerian superstars like Davido and Wizkid had collaborated more frequently.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Asika highlighted the missed opportunities in the Nigerian music industry, comparing Afrobeats' global trajectory to that of Latin music, which has seen tremendous international success through strategic artist collaborations.

"Afrobeat would have been bigger if Davido, Wizkid and the likes of others were collaborating. I might be wrong but the probability of Afrobeat being more successful and bigger is a thing. Our genre ticket values at international shows will be stronger," Asika explained.

The music executive specifically pointed to the collaborative model that has propelled Latin artists like J Balvin, Nicky Jam, and Bad Bunny to global prominence, suggesting that Nigerian artists could benefit from a similar approach.

Asika's comments come amid ongoing discussions about Afrobeats' international growth and the sometimes competitive relationships between Nigeria's biggest music stars. While both Davido and Wizkid have achieved remarkable individual success on the global stage, fans have long anticipated a collaboration between the two icons.

Industry experts have noted that such high-profile collaborations could potentially elevate ticket prices for international shows and further cement Afrobeats' position in the global music landscape.

Despite their parallel rises to stardom and occasional public tensions, both artists have continued to break new ground for Nigerian music internationally, with Wizkid and Tems recently making Apple Music's Top 500 Streamed Songs list.
