Africa's richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has penned an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending him for his transformative reforms in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

The letter, shared by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday, specifically highlighted Tinubu's efforts in addressing ocean surges and flooding in Victoria Island, the development of the new Atlantic City, and the expansion of Nigeria's infrastructure network.

Appreciation for Bar Beach Land Reclamation

In his letter, Dangote expressed "deep appreciation" for Tinubu's "visionary leadership and farsightedness" on the Bar Beach Land Reclamation project in Victoria Island, Lagos State. He noted how the project has transformed a coastline once prone to incessant floods into an emerging new district with a defining skyline since its conception in 2008.

"Asiwaju of Africa, your foresightedness is even more visible in view of the tragic incident in Kerr County, Texas, USA, where over 100 lives have sadly been lost to flash flooding," Dangote wrote.

The billionaire businessman highlighted the Eko Atlantic City project as a modern city spanning 1,000 hectares, protected by an 8.5-kilometre-long sea wall that shields Victoria Island from coastal erosion. He praised how the project has created new land through sand dredging from the Atlantic Ocean for residential, business, and recreational purposes.

Infrastructure Development Initiatives

Dangote also commended President Tinubu for initiating the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway projects, which he described as significantly enriching the country's infrastructure while improving the national road network linking Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

"The latter of the two is a resurrection of a 48-year-old project, and both are being handled by a first-rate construction and civil engineering firm, Hitech Construction Company Limited," he noted.

Climate Fund Announcement

In his letter, Dangote revealed that the Aliko Dangote Foundation would soon announce plans to contribute to a climate fund targeting vulnerable parts of Nigeria susceptible to flooding and other natural disasters.

"Our dear nation has also suffered significant losses in lives and property due to rising sea levels and incidents of flash flooding. In honour of your vision, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will soon be announcing plans to contribute to a climate fund that will target those vulnerable parts of our country that are susceptible to this natural disaster," he stated.

The letter concluded with prayers for President Tinubu's continued wisdom and success for the benefit of all Nigerians.
