Former presidential candidate Dele Momodu has made serious allegations against Nyesom Wike, claiming the former Rivers State Governor paid $30,000 to each delegate during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2022 presidential primary election.

Momodu, who was also a contestant in the same primary election, made this revelation during an interview with Channels Television on Monday. According to him, a former Nigerian president had warned him against participating in the primaries due to Wike's financial influence.

"A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30K per delegate. $30K multiplied by 774 delegates," Momodu stated during the interview.

Despite Wike's alleged financial investment, he was ultimately defeated by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the primary election. This defeat reportedly triggered a chain of events that plunged the main opposition party into prolonged internal turmoil.

Following his loss, Wike rejected the outcome of the election and subsequently worked against the PDP's interests in the 2023 general election. In a move that shocked many party loyalists, the former Rivers governor threw his support behind Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate who eventually won the presidential election.

Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine, has consistently criticized Wike's conduct following the primary, describing his actions as destabilizing to the party's cohesion and electoral chances.

In a related development, Atiku Abubakar, along with several other PDP stalwarts, recently announced their defection from the party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further highlighting the ongoing fragmentation within the PDP.

These allegations come at a time when Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of future electoral contests, raising questions about campaign financing and delegate influence in party primaries.
