The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has issued an open invitation to all Nigerians who wish to visit him at the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility where he is currently being held.

This invitation comes in the wake of a significant legal victory for Kanu after a Kenyan High Court in Nairobi ruled on June 24 that his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in 2021 was both unlawful and illegal.

Kanu's Reaction to Kenyan Court Ruling

According to his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, who met with Kanu on Friday during a routine visit, the IPOB leader expressed gratitude to his legal team and family members for securing the landmark judgment in Kenya.

Ejimakor shared Kanu's message on social media platform X: "Rising from today's visitation, MAZI NNAMDI KANU took the opportunity to hail his lawyers & siblings for the stunning victory from Kenya. He also extended an open invitation to anybody (who is in doubt about his messages thru his lawyers) to personally pay him a visit at the DSS."

Background on Kanu's Detention

Nnamdi Kanu was rearrested by security agents in June 2021 and subjected to extraordinary rendition back to Nigeria. The controversial manner of his return to Nigeria has been a subject of legal battles both domestically and internationally.

The recent ruling by the Kenyan High Court has added a new dimension to Kanu's case, potentially strengthening calls for his release by various groups, including Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which has repeatedly urged the Nigerian government to free the IPOB leader.

The judgment has been described as a "judicial earthquake" by IPOB supporters, while activist Omoyele Sowore reportedly characterized Kanu's rendition as an "unjust and criminal act."

As the legal and diplomatic implications of the Kenyan court ruling continue to unfold, Kanu's invitation to visitors appears to be an attempt to directly communicate his position and possibly counter any misrepresentations of his messages.
