Former Delta State Gubernatorial Aspirant and Public Affairs Commentator, Sunny Onuesoke, has declared that Nigeria does not need foreign companies to rehabilitate its refineries, asserting that Nigerian experts possess the necessary expertise for the task.

In a statement personally signed by Onuesoke and made available to BenriNews in Warri, he expressed strong confidence in the technical capabilities of Nigerian engineers and technicians, particularly those within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

"Nigerian experts have the required expertise to revive and manage the country's refineries effectively," Onuesoke stated, pointing to past successful maintenance efforts by local engineers as concrete evidence of their capabilities.

Political Will Over Foreign Technical Support

The former gubernatorial aspirant emphasized that political will and elimination of corruption are more critical factors in refinery rehabilitation than seeking foreign technical support. His statement reflected strong nationalistic sentiments and highlighted the potential cost savings of utilizing local expertise.

Onuesoke also criticized the recurring trend of awarding contracts to foreign firms for tasks he firmly believes Nigerian professionals can handle competently. He advocated for empowering local professionals rather than continually looking abroad for solutions to domestic challenges.

This statement comes amid ongoing debates about Nigeria's refinery rehabilitation strategy and the country's persistent reliance on imported refined petroleum products despite being a major crude oil producer.
