Iranian authorities on Wednesday executed three men convicted of collaborating with Israel's Mossad intelligence agency in a covert assassination operation, according to the country's judiciary.
The executions were carried out at dawn in Urmia Central Prison in northwest Iran, following the Supreme Court's final approval of the death sentences.
The men, identified by judiciary-affiliated Mizan News Agency as Idris Ali, Azad Shojaei, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, were found guilty of smuggling equipment used in the killing of an unnamed high-profile figure.
Charges and Convictions
Officials said the equipment entered Iran disguised as an alcohol shipment and was used in a Mossad-linked plot to destabilize the country. The three men were convicted under Iran's harshest legal charges: moharebeh (waging war against God) and ifsad fil-arz (corruption on earth).
"Based on strong evidence and credible documentation, the Revolutionary Court found the defendants guilty of espionage, cooperation with hostile foreign powers, and actions undermining national security," Mizan stated.
The judiciary claimed the trio had coordinated with a Mossad operative based in a neighboring country before being arrested by Iranian intelligence agents. Court proceedings were held in the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, with authorities insisting the men were granted legal representation.
Escalating Tensions
The executions mark Iran's latest crackdown on alleged foreign espionage amid heightened tensions with Israel. Tehran has long accused Mossad of orchestrating sabotage and assassination campaigns targeting nuclear scientists and senior officials within Iran.
This development comes as relations between Iran and Israel remain at a critical low point, with ongoing disputes over Iran's nuclear program and regional influence continuing to fuel conflict between the two nations.
