Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been handed a two-match suspension by FIFA following his red card in the Club World Cup 2025 match against Flamengo, the football governing body confirmed on Tuesday.

Jackson received a straight red card shortly after coming on as a substitute in Chelsea's 3-1 defeat to the Brazilian side at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 20. This marks his second dismissal in just four games for the London club, raising concerns about disciplinary issues.

In an official statement, FIFA's Disciplinary Committee explained: "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on Chelsea's player Nicolas Jackson who was sent off as a result of a direct red card during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match between his team and CR Flamengo at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, on 20 June 2025... 2-match suspension for breach under article 14 paragraph 1 e) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This decision is final and binding and cannot be appealed."

Following the incident, Jackson took to social media to apologize to fans and teammates for his actions, acknowledging the impact of his dismissal on the team's performance.

Despite Jackson's absence, Chelsea managed to secure a convincing 3-0 victory against Esperance in their final group fixture. This win ensured their progression to the Round of 16 stage of the tournament, where they are set to face Portuguese giants Benfica.

The expanded Club World Cup 2025 has already seen 13 teams eliminated from the competition, with 10 teams, including Chelsea, securing their places in the knockout stages.

Chelsea will now need to navigate their crucial Round of 16 fixture without their Senegalese striker, as they aim to progress further in this prestigious global tournament.
