Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka has expressed uncertainty about his future at Brentford following his loan spell at Bundesliga club Augsburg during the 2024/25 season.
The 27-year-old is set to return to the Bees this summer as his loan agreement with Augsburg did not include a purchase option. However, Brentford are currently without a head coach after Thomas Frank departed for Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Onyeka's position at the club unclear.
"The aim right now is to go back to Brentford. I don't know who the new coach is. So I have to speak to him to know what is going on. And then, we can take it from there," Onyeka told BenriNews.
Prior to his loan move last summer, the former FC Midtylland player struggled to secure regular playing time at Brentford. His decision to seek opportunities elsewhere temporarily appears to have been motivated by a desire for consistent match action.
Onyeka's situation highlights the challenges faced by many players when clubs undergo managerial changes. The Nigerian international will need to impress whoever takes over at Brentford to secure his place in the squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
The midfielder's immediate future remains in limbo as Brentford continue their search for Frank's replacement. Football analysts suggest that Onyeka's versatility and experience could still make him a valuable asset for the London club if given the opportunity under new management.
