Kwara United technical adviser Tunde Sanni has declared that his team will not underestimate Abakaliki FC in the upcoming President Federation Cup final, despite facing a lower-division side.

The highly anticipated final is scheduled for Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, with Kwara United aiming to end their 49-year trophy drought.

Giant-Killers Demand Respect

Abakaliki FC has earned their place in the final after an impressive run, eliminating three Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams – Nasarawa United, Enyimba, and Ikorodu City – along the way.

"We are not Ikorodu City. Ask them what we did to them in both Lagos and Ilorin – they will tell you," Sanni told Sure FM, referencing Kwara United's previous victories. "We are not underrating Abakaliki FC, but we are also not afraid. We'll settle everything on the pitch in 90 minutes."

The coach emphasized that his team would approach the match with the right mindset: "We will approach the match with focus and seriousness, but without panic. The aim is to make our supporters proud."

Community Support Building

The significance of this final extends beyond the team, with the Emir of Ilorin reportedly urging the players to aim for victory. Meanwhile, Kwara United's captain Musa has appealed for fan support ahead of the crucial match.

BenriNews understands that the Harmony Boys have already arrived in Lagos for the final, with the team declaring their intention to "make history" in the prestigious cup competition.

The match has also attracted attention from national team selectors, with reports indicating that Chelle has traveled to Lagos to scout players for the upcoming CHAN 2024 tournament.
