Iran reportedly warned the United States about potentially activating terrorist sleeper cells within American territory just days before US airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, according to a report by NBC News on Monday.

Sources cited in the report revealed that US President Donald Trump received a communiqué through an intermediary during last week's G7 summit in Canada. The message allegedly contained threats from Iran to activate dormant terror cells if Washington proceeded with military action against Tehran.

US Strikes Despite Warnings

Despite the reported warning, US forces launched coordinated strikes early Sunday on three key Iranian nuclear facilities located in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan. Following the attack, President Trump issued a statement declaring that Tehran "must now agree to end this war" or face even more severe consequences.

The military action has drawn widespread international condemnation. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres described the strikes as a "dangerous escalation" and warned of their threat to global peace and security.

Russia also strongly denounced the attacks, characterizing them as violations of international law, the UN Charter, and related Security Council resolutions. Moscow has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to maintain impartiality in its response to the situation.

Escalation Following Israeli Operation

The current crisis escalated after Israel launched a large-scale military operation codenamed "Rising Lion" on June 13, targeting various Iranian sites. Israel accused Tehran of running a covert military nuclear program, resulting in strikes across Iran, including in Tehran, and the deaths of several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists.

The Nigerian government has meanwhile reassured citizens that there is no security threat in Abuja, contrary to warnings issued by the US to its citizens to avoid unofficial visits to military bases and government offices in the capital.

Reports indicate that Iran has already begun retaliatory measures, firing missiles at US bases in the region.

NATO has warned that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons, while Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged support for Iran following the US and Israeli airstrikes.
