Russia's former president, Dmitry Medvedev, has claimed that several countries are prepared to supply Iran with nuclear warheads, following recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Medvedev, who currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, made the assertion in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, though he did not specify which nations might provide such support.
"The enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue," Medvedev stated. "A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads."
His comments came in the aftermath of US military operations that reportedly destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities, significantly escalating tensions in the region.
Russia's Support for Iran
Russia has historically backed Iran's nuclear program. Just days before Medvedev's statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to mediate peace talks between Iran and Israel, highlighting Moscow's continued diplomatic involvement in Middle Eastern affairs.
The situation comes amid growing international concern about nuclear proliferation and regional stability in the Middle East. Iran's President Pezeshkian has indicated that the US "must receive a response" to the nuclear strikes, while several European nations including France, Germany, and the UK have urged Iran to resume nuclear talks.
Meanwhile, US presidential candidate Donald Trump has hinted at potential "regime change" in Iran, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.
Qatar has called for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy following the US strikes, as international mediators attempt to prevent further military confrontation.
