The Chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has strongly condemned the killing of 16 wedding guests from Kaduna who were murdered in Plateau State.

In a statement signed by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as a "barbaric and cowardly act that has no place in a civilised society."

"Such mindless violence against innocent citizens is unacceptable and must be met with swift and decisive justice," the governor stated, conveying his deep sadness over the brutal killings.

Call for Justice and Restraint

Yahaya extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kaduna State, particularly to the bereaved families affected by the attack. He offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and comfort for their families during this difficult period.

The NSGF Chairman commended the Plateau State Government and security agencies for their quick response, particularly noting the arrest of suspects linked to the incident. He called for a thorough investigation and prompt prosecution of all those involved.

"The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice without delay. This is not just about accountability; it is about restoring faith in the rule of law and protecting the rights of every Nigerian citizen," Yahaya emphasized.

Warning Against Reprisals

In a bid to prevent further violence, Governor Yahaya appealed to residents of Plateau, Kaduna, and neighboring states to remain calm and law-abiding. He specifically urged against any form of reprisal attacks, stressing that citizens should not allow the actions of a few to divide their communities or ignite further violence.

The governor called for restraint and patience as authorities work to ensure justice is served in this case that has heightened tensions in the region.

The victims, who were reportedly attending a wedding ceremony in Kaduna, were killed while traveling through Plateau State, an incident that has once again highlighted security challenges in the North-Central region.
