The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious allegations against Nigeria's security agencies, accusing them of conducting politically motivated arrests following the recent massacre in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Benue State chapter of the PDP expressed deep concern over what it described as a biased approach to justice in the ongoing investigation, claiming that only individuals suspected to be PDP supporters have been targeted for arrest.

The party highlighted that the brutal killings, which resulted in multiple casualties and forced many residents to flee their homes, have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity throughout the community. According to the PDP, the response from law enforcement agencies has been unfairly skewed along political lines.

"We condemn in strong terms the selective arrests being carried out by security agencies over the Yelwata massacre. The victims and their families deserve justice, not political witch-hunts," the statement emphasized.

The opposition party urged security operatives to maintain professionalism and impartiality in their investigation, warning that politically motivated enforcement of the law could exacerbate tensions and further undermine public trust in state institutions.

"Security agencies should focus on apprehending the real perpetrators, regardless of their political affiliations. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done," the party added.

The Yelwata massacre represents another tragic chapter in Benue State's ongoing security challenges, particularly in areas that have witnessed recurring conflicts between farming communities and armed groups.

Political observers note that these allegations of selective justice could potentially heighten political tensions in the state, especially as various parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.

As of press time, security agencies had not responded to the PDP's allegations of bias in their investigation and arrest procedures.
