A devastating bomb explosion at a scrap collection company in Kano has claimed the lives of five people and left 15 others injured, the Kano State Police Command confirmed on Saturday.

The incident occurred at a facility located along the Eastern bypass area of the state. According to police reports, the explosion was caused by a military-grade explosive device that detonated unexpectedly.

Police Investigation Underway

Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the scene shortly after the incident, told reporters that he was alerted to the emergency situation and immediately responded.

"It was a military EOD personnel. It was a military model bomb that exploded. 15 people were injured and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital," Commissioner Bakori stated.

He further revealed that upon arrival at the hospital, five victims were confirmed dead, while ten others remain under medical care for various degrees of injuries.

Explosive Traced to Yobe State

Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosive device arrived in Kano via a truck from neighboring Yobe State. The Commissioner assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

"From preliminary investigation, the vehicle came from Yobe. Though the matter is under investigation, I was informed that the vehicle carrying the bomb was a truck from Yobe State," he added.

The police chief promised to provide more details as the investigation progresses.

This incident raises serious concerns about the movement of military-grade explosives across state lines and the potential security implications for residents in the affected areas.

The explosion comes at a time when security agencies across the country are working to address various security challenges, including the proliferation of dangerous weapons and explosives.
