The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 19 suspected internet fraudsters in separate operations conducted across Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, 13 suspects were apprehended at Atimbo and Lemna Trailer Park areas of Calabar in Cross River State, while six others were arrested at Idoro in Akwa Ibom State.
Details of the Operation
The arrests were made during sting operations following actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to alleged internet-related fraud activities. The anti-graft agency's spokesperson revealed that several items were recovered during the operations.
"Items recovered from them include three exotic cars, 31 mobile phones, and five laptops," Oyewale stated.
The EFCC further disclosed that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
EFCC's Ongoing Crackdown on Cybercrime
This operation is part of the Commission's intensified efforts to combat internet fraud across Nigeria. The EFCC has been conducting similar operations in various states, with recent arrests also reported in Abuja.
