President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to allocate land for the establishment of ranches as part of efforts to address the ongoing security crisis in the state.

Speaking during a stakeholders' meeting in Makurdi following the recent killings by suspected herders, Tinubu emphasized the need for unity in confronting common enemies.

"Give me land to establish a ranch, we can shake off the backwardness. Look at the national anthem, we want to handover to the next generation, a banner without stain," the President stated.

Tinubu further stressed the importance of national cohesion, saying, "I have said it again that we are Nigerians, we are one family living in the same house but sleeping in different rooms, lets fight our enemies together and not fight each other. A human life is better than that of a cow."

Security Crisis in Benue

The President's visit comes in the wake of violence that has claimed over 200 lives in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Governor Alia has attributed these killings to suspected herders with territorial interests.

During the meeting, the Tor Tiv reportedly described the situation as being more complex than typical farmer-herder clashes, suggesting more sinister motives behind the violence.

The President's proposal for ranching represents a potential long-term solution to the recurring conflicts between herders and farming communities in the state, which have persisted for years.

Tinubu also reassured the people of Benue, stating, "We have enough land to feed and raise our children," highlighting his administration's commitment to finding lasting solutions to the security challenges.
