President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday advised Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, to prepare for criticism, stating that receiving insults "is the hallmark of leadership" as they work to resolve the ongoing crisis in the state.

During a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Benue following the killing of over 200 people by suspected herdsmen, the President directed Governor Alia to make land available for cattle ranching as part of efforts to find lasting solutions to the violence.

"Be ready for insults. That is the yoke of leadership. Get your lantern. Seek out those leaders to join you to find solutions," Tinubu told the Governor. "I am ready to invest in bringing peace to Benue," he assured.

New Committee and Security Directives

The President ordered the immediate formation of a committee of elders, which will include all former governors of the state as well as the incumbent Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.

In a direct challenge to security agencies, Tinubu questioned why no arrests had been made following the recent massacre. He instructed intelligence chiefs to "retune information channels for tangible intelligence to prevent a recurrence" of such attacks.

The President also thanked the Chief of Defence Staff while directing him to flush out the criminals responsible for the violence that has plagued the region.

Call for Unity

Addressing the broader community, President Tinubu charged all citizens in Benue to find common ground and work together to establish lasting peace in the state.

The President's visit comes amid escalating tensions following what many have described as one of the deadliest attacks in the region's recent history.
