The Lafia City Stadium, home to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Nasarawa United, is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation ahead of the 2025/26 season, BenriNews reports.
This development comes following a directive from the NPFL to all participating clubs to upgrade their stadium facilities before the new season commences on Friday, August 22, 2025.
NPFL Stadium Requirements
According to the league body, clubs that fail to comply with the directive will be forced to play their home matches at neutral venues. The NPFL has outlined specific requirements for all stadiums, including:
- Standard playing surface
- Approved and functional standard LED floodlights for night matches
- Backup generators to provide alternative power supply
The stadium upgrade is part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure across Nigerian football and enhance the quality of match experiences for both players and fans.
Nasarawa United, which has been using the Lafia City Stadium as its home ground, will benefit from these improvements as they prepare for the upcoming season's challenges.
This stadium renovation follows a trend of facility improvements across the league, with Enyimba's stadium also recently receiving upgrades to meet the NPFL's standards.
The 2025/26 NPFL season promises to bring exciting football action to fans across Nigeria, with improved stadium facilities expected to enhance the overall quality of the league.
