Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team of the Delta State Police Command have successfully apprehended two suspected gunrunners during a sting operation in the Okpanam area of Asaba, Delta State.
The operation, which took place at approximately 4 pm last Friday, led to the arrest of 36-year-old Ekene Chroma, a female native of Issele-Uku, and 18-year-old Okafor Jonathan from Onicha-Ugbo. Both suspects reside in Okpanam within Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, a search conducted on the suspects yielded two English single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that they were suspected of being involved in the business of gun running. Suspects and exhibits are in custody while the investigation is ongoing," Edafe stated.
Police Commissioner Acknowledges Public Support
Meanwhile, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has expressed his profound gratitude to members of the public who have been providing valuable information to the police, which has contributed significantly to recent operational successes.
Abaniwonda emphasized that these achievements would not have been possible without public cooperation and urged other well-meaning residents to partner with the police in their ongoing efforts to ensure a safer Delta State.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns about illegal firearms circulation in the region and represents a significant step in the command's efforts to curb armed criminal activities in the state.
