An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday sentenced Suleiman Ibrahim to six months' imprisonment for swindling a businessman of N230,000. The convict, who pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust, was given an option of a N30,000 fine by Judge Shawomi Bokkos.

According to Police Prosecutor Inspector Ijuptil Thlawur, the case was reported at the 'C' Division Police Station on March 4 by the complainant, Mr. Kamal Musa. The businessman had entrusted Ibrahim with N230,000 for the construction of a grinding machine.

Rather than fulfilling the agreement, Ibrahim diverted the funds for personal use. During police investigation, the convict confessed to converting the money for his personal needs and failing to construct the promised grinding machine.

The prosecutor noted that the offense contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria of 2017. The judge handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded for leniency following his guilty plea.

This case highlights the judicial system's approach to financial fraud cases in Plateau State, where courts continue to prosecute individuals who breach trust in business transactions.
