The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 11 individuals suspected of internet fraud following operations in Kaduna State.
According to a statement released by the Commission, operatives from the Kaduna Zonal Directorate conducted the arrests in the Mahuta and Barnawa areas of the state capital. The operation was reportedly based on credible intelligence received by the anti-graft agency.
During the operation, several items were recovered from the suspects, including a Mercedes Benz C300, 14 mobile phones, two laptops, an iPad, two MiFi devices, and portable speakers. These items are believed to be connected to the alleged fraudulent activities.
The Commission stated that the suspects will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded. This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the EFCC to combat the rising cases of internet fraud across Nigeria.
Rising Cybercrime Concerns in Northern Nigeria
This operation highlights the growing concern over internet fraud activities in northern Nigeria, particularly in urban centers like Kaduna. The EFCC has intensified its efforts in recent months to curb these activities, which have significant negative impacts on Nigeria's international reputation and economy.
The arrest comes amid increasing calls for stronger measures against cybercrime in Nigeria, which has become a major focus for law enforcement agencies across the country.
In related developments, the Kaduna State government recently inaugurated a Special Joint Task Force aimed at curbing urban crime and drug abuse, indicating a broader push to address various forms of criminal activities in the state.
