Thirteen suspects facing serious charges including kidnapping and culpable homicide have escaped from police custody in Nasarawa State, authorities confirmed.

The jailbreak occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sources within the command revealed to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama that the suspects broke through the rear wall of their detention cell at the Area Command facility.

High-Profile Suspects Among Escapees

The escaped detainees include several high-profile suspects: Jamilu Abdulsalam, Abdullahi Yahaya, Usman Yerima, Abba Musa, Idris Hussaini, Abu Amu, Usman Hassan, Hussaini Sani, Ibrahim Shuaibu, Hamza Abubakar, and Usman Ibrahim (also known as "Tecno").

These individuals were being held by officers in charge of Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism units on charges ranging from chain theft and kidnapping to culpable homicide, attempted kidnapping, and causing grievous hurt. One suspect, Abdullahi Muhammed, was reportedly in detention on court orders.

Police Response and Accountability

In response to the escape, the Nasarawa State Police Command has launched extensive efforts to recapture the fugitives. Various tactical and intelligence units have been deployed across the state and surrounding areas to track down the escaped suspects.

The command has also taken disciplinary actions against key officers who were on duty at the time of the incident. The Cell Record Officer, incident duty officer, cell guard, and visiting-round officer have all been queried and are being held accountable pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

This incident raises concerns about security protocols at detention facilities in the state and the potential public safety implications of having dangerous suspects at large.
