Osun United head coach, Seye Ajayi, has credited his team's successful qualification for the 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight playoff tournament to consistency in performance and player retention strategy.
The Omoluabi Giants secured their place in the promotion playoff after finishing second in Group B of the regular season. Their qualification was confirmed following an impressive 3-1 victory over Firstbank FC in their final match of the regular campaign.
"I think it's just the consistency of the team," Ajayi told BenriNews. "We tried to keep the players together for two seasons now. Which really helped our consistency."
The coach reflected on his journey with the club, noting the progress they have made under his leadership. "Well, like you know, I took over the team while in the amateur league, with God's grace we got promoted to NNL, we spent two seasons, and here we are in playoff," he explained.
Building Momentum for Promotion Push
Ajayi expressed optimism about the team's prospects in the upcoming Super Eight playoff tournament, which will determine which clubs gain promotion to Nigeria's top-flight league.
"The win has undoubtedly boosted the team's morale and we will look to build on this momentum in the push for promotion to the top flight," the coach stated.
Osun United's qualification comes after a strategic two-year plan that focused on team stability and gradual improvement, a model that could serve as a blueprint for other clubs in the lower divisions of Nigerian football.
The NNL Super Eight playoff tournament will feature the top teams from the regular season competing for promotion spots to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
