Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has identified five players who have shown significant improvement since his appointment at the club last year. The Italian manager specifically mentioned Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo as standouts who have elevated their performances under his guidance.
Maresca, who took over the managerial position at Chelsea following Mauricio Pochettino's dismissal last summer, has enjoyed a successful first season at Stamford Bridge. Under his leadership, the Blues secured a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and claimed the UEFA Europa Conference League title.
Player Development Central to Success
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup fixture against Los Angeles on Monday, Maresca emphasized the importance of individual player development to team success.
"I have said many times that you can improve the team if you improve players," Maresca told Chelsea's website. "I have seen since we started that the players are improving, and that is the most important thing."
"Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, so many of these players are getting better and better," he added.
All five mentioned players played crucial roles in Chelsea's campaign last season, contributing to the team's domestic and European achievements.
Looking Ahead to Club World Cup
Chelsea are now preparing to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, with their opening match against Los Angeles scheduled for Monday. The tournament represents another opportunity for Maresca's side to add to their growing trophy collection under his stewardship.
The Blues will be joining other elite clubs including Real Madrid and Al Ahly in the competition being held in the United States.
