Former Argentina striker, Sergio Aguero, has mocked Cristiano Ronaldo after Al Nassr failed to qualify for the 2025 Club World Cup tournament which is currently underway.
The incident occurred during Aguero's appearance on popular streamer IShowSpeed's live broadcast as the tournament kicked off with a match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly.
IShowSpeed, a well-known Ronaldo supporter, had asked Aguero to arrange a meeting between him and Lionel Messi. This prompted Aguero to question the streamer about his admiration for Ronaldo.
"You're a very big fan of Cristiano, no?" Aguero asked. When Speed confirmed but insisted he still wanted to meet Messi, Aguero responded: "I respect it, it's OK. He's a good player. I prefer Messi, of course."
The former Manchester City star then sarcastically questioned why Ronaldo wasn't participating in the Club World Cup. "Ronaldo is playing here now at the Club World Cup or no?" he quipped, before adding, "Maybe he'll have to watch on TV."
Ronaldo's absence from the tournament comes after his club, Al Nassr, failed to secure qualification, adding another chapter to the long-standing Messi-Ronaldo rivalry that has transcended their playing careers.
Meanwhile, Messi's Inter Miami has already begun their campaign in the tournament, facing Egyptian side Al Ahly in their opening match.
The 2025 Club World Cup features several top clubs from around the world, including some with Nigerian players who will be showcasing their talents on the global stage.
