The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned three individuals before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court on theft charges. The suspects, identified as Ajanaku Lekan, Akingbade Sodiq, and Ajalume Seun, appeared in court following allegations of stealing rice in Ilawe-Ekiti.

According to Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, who is prosecuting the case, the defendants, along with others still at large, allegedly committed the offense on May 27, 2025, at approximately 2:00 pm. The prosecution claims they stole rice valued at N50,000, which belonged to one Oladipo Tope.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

Inspector Oriyomi informed the court that the alleged offenses contravene Sections 421 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021. The defendants were represented by Counsel Adunni Olanipekun, who applied for bail on their behalf.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the bail application, setting bail at N20,000 for each defendant with one surety in like sum. The case has been adjourned to July 17, 2025, for further hearing.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about food security and rising food prices across Nigeria, where basic food items like rice have become increasingly expensive for many households.

The Ekiti State Police Command continues to urge citizens to report criminal activities promptly to help maintain law and order in the state.
