Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with Senate President Godswill Akpabio's conduct during President Bola Tinubu's Democracy Day address at the joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists after the president's address, Dickson alleged that Akpabio violated his constitutional rights by rushing through President Tinubu's letters to the National Assembly and ignoring his attempt to intervene.

"That's not how democracy works. That's how military regimes operate," Dickson stated, lamenting that Akpabio "completely disregarded" his right as a Senator to "raise a constitutional issue."

Public Reaction to Tinubu's Address

BenriNews reports that several stakeholders have criticized President Tinubu for allegedly focusing on politics rather than addressing the significant challenges facing Nigerians. Many citizens expressed disappointment that the president's speech failed to address critical national issues, particularly the ongoing security concerns and widespread killings across the country.

According to various opinions gathered, the president appeared more interested in criticizing opposition parties than addressing the pressing concerns affecting everyday Nigerians.

This incident highlights growing tensions within Nigeria's legislative chambers and raises questions about parliamentary procedures and respect for constitutional rights in the country's democratic processes.

The clash between Senator Dickson and Senate President Akpabio comes at a time when many Nigerians are calling for more accountability and responsiveness from their elected officials on matters of national importance.
