Former Akwa United forward Mfon Udoh has opened up about his groundbreaking achievement as the first player in Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) history to win the top scorer award twice.

Udoh, who claimed the prestigious golden boot during both the 2019 and 2024 NPFL seasons, described the accomplishment as "both humbling and deeply rewarding" in a recent social media post.

Making NPFL History

"In 2019, I had the distinct honor of emerging as the joint highest goal scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League," Udoh stated on his Facebook page. "It was a truly remarkable and fulfilling moment—not only because I topped the scoring chart once again, but because it marked a historic achievement."

The striker further reflected on the significance of his achievement, adding: "To becoming the first player ever to win the golden boot twice in the history of the league. To etch my name into the records in such a way was both humbling and deeply rewarding."

Udoh's remarkable consistency in front of goal has cemented his legacy as one of the most prolific strikers in the domestic league's history. His goal-scoring prowess during his time with Enyimba and later Akwa United has set a benchmark for future NPFL forwards to aspire to.

The 2025/26 NPFL season is scheduled to kick off on August 22, as the league continues to develop and showcase Nigeria's football talent.
