Manchester United have reopened talks with Napoli over the potential signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they look to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
The Premier League club views Osimhen as the ideal forward to lead their attacking line next season following a disappointing 2024-25 campaign where they narrowly avoided relegation and managed just 44 goals in 38 league matches.
Impressive Loan Spell at Galatasaray
Osimhen spent the previous season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray after Napoli coach Antonio Conte preferred Romelu Lukaku in attack. The Nigerian international flourished in Turkey, netting an impressive 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping Galatasaray secure the league title.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Ruben Amorim's Manchester United have initiated fresh discussions with the player as they seek to address their goalscoring problems. Current strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to make significant impacts last season, contributing to the team's offensive struggles.
Financial Considerations
The transfer won't come cheap for the Red Devils. Osimhen is reportedly demanding a salary of approximately €12 million per year, while Napoli has set an asking price of €75 million for the former Lille forward.
All indications suggest that Osimhen is unlikely to remain at Napoli for the 2025-26 season, making a summer move highly probable. Manchester United's interest comes as they look to rebuild following their disappointing league finish last season.
The potential acquisition of Osimhen would represent a significant statement of intent from Manchester United as they aim to return to the upper echelons of English and European football under Amorim's leadership.
