Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the recent clash between Air Peace airline and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District.

The minister announced the probe through a statement released on his X account on Friday, following a public exchange of accusations between the airline and the former Edo State governor.

Details of the Airport Incident

The dispute stemmed from an incident that occurred on Wednesday morning at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, Zulu Hall in Lagos. Air Peace accused Senator Oshiomhole of violence and disrupting a flight operation.

In response, Oshiomhole denied the airline's claims, instead alleging that Air Peace prevented him and other passengers from boarding despite having completed online check-in procedures. The senator further accused the airline of extortion and other unethical practices, claims which Air Peace has firmly denied.

Minister's Intervention

"In the wake of the incident at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday involving AIRPEACE Airline and His Excellency, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I have been in direct contact with both parties since that morning," Keyamo stated.

The minister urged both parties to exercise restraint in their public utterances regarding the incident while the investigation proceeds.

"Whilst appealing to both sides to halt the public accusations and counter-accusations, I am further directing the relevant aviation agencies to thoroughly look into the issue, collect all available evidence, and revert to my office so we can deal with the issue in such a way as to guide future conduct in similar situations," he added.

The investigation is expected to examine all aspects of the incident, including CCTV footage if available, to determine the facts of the matter and establish guidelines for handling similar situations in the future.

This dispute highlights ongoing concerns about customer service standards and operational procedures in Nigeria's aviation sector, an industry that has faced various challenges in recent years.
