A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Daniel Musa, has strongly criticized the North East zonal coordinator of APC and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, for scheduling a crucial party meeting during Sunday church service hours.

Speaking to journalists in Jalingo on Friday, Musa expressed concern over the timing of the North East zonal consultative meeting, set for 11 am on Sunday, June 15, 2025, describing it as potentially marginalizing Christian members of the party.

"This timing is problematic. It clashes with Sunday church services, which is a central aspect of life for Christian members. Such scheduling either reflects a lack of sensitivity or a deliberate exclusion, neither of which is acceptable," Musa stated.

Concerns Over Religious Inclusivity

While expressing hope that the timing was merely an oversight, Musa warned that failure to rectify it could send "dangerous signals" about the party's attitude toward inclusiveness and religious balance.

"If it is not corrected immediately, it will suggest that the APC has no regard for its Christian members in the region. That would reinforce the perception that the party is biased, which is not good for our unity or electoral prospects," he added.

The APC stalwart emphasized that it would be unthinkable for a similar meeting to be scheduled during Friday Juma'ah prayers, implying a double standard in how religious observances are respected within the party.

"The APC is already battling a perception problem as a party for a particular religion. We must be cautious not to validate that view with our actions," Musa cautioned.

Call for Rescheduling

Musa urged Governor Buni and the zonal leadership to reschedule the meeting to a more inclusive time that would allow full participation from both Christian and Muslim members, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Nigeria's religious diversity in political planning.

The criticism comes at a time when political parties are working to maintain religious balance and inclusivity ahead of future electoral contests.
