Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos State Governorship Candidate under the Labour Party (LP), has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a premature commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

The 700-kilometre infrastructure project, designed to connect Lagos Island to Calabar in Cross River State, has reportedly seen only about 30 kilometers completed so far, representing less than 5 percent of the entire project.

"Shameful" Commissioning

In a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, Rhodes-Vivour expressed his disappointment with the administration's approach to the project.

"Not only is it shameful to roll out the drums to commission less than 5% of a project, they still had to lie and spew propaganda on the so-called 30km," Rhodes-Vivour stated.

He further compared the situation to recent controversies involving government officials, saying, "This is the same way the minister of finance went abroad to reel out fake data only to be checkmated by data from the CBN days after. So embarrassing."

Broader Criticisms

The former gubernatorial candidate didn't limit his criticism to the coastal highway project. He also highlighted concerns about rising insecurity in the country while government officials are "shamelessly promoting the 'genius' of the NSA."

Rhodes-Vivour concluded with a stark assessment of the current administration: "The harsh truth is that a party fixated on politics and propaganda cannot govern effectively. That is why Nigerians are much poorer today than they were less than a decade ago."

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway represents one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects undertaken by the Tinubu administration, with significant economic implications for the southern regions of Nigeria.

As of publication time, there has been no official response from the presidency regarding these criticisms.
