Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has appealed to residents to take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure and facilities from vandalism as his administration continues to implement development projects across the state.

Speaking on Wednesday after commissioning several projects in three Local Government Areas of Abia Central Senatorial Zone, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of community vigilance in safeguarding public assets.

"Ensure that everything that we are putting in place, the infrastructure, the roads, the equipment we are putting in those primary healthcare centres are secured. Because there is no security better than the security you provide," the Governor stated during the event held at Ibeku High School, Umuahia.

Otti urged citizens to report any attempts to vandalize public property to appropriate authorities, assuring that his administration would take decisive action against perpetrators. "Anytime anybody wants to vandalize public properties, report them to the appropriate authorities. And, we can assure you, we will deal with them," he promised.

Plans for Federal Road Reconstruction

During the same event, Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Works to begin reconstruction of the Ikot-Ekpene Federal Road, which connects to the newly completed IBB way in Umuahia.

Acknowledging that the road falls under federal jurisdiction, Otti maintained that his administration would proceed with the repairs regardless. "We are aware that it's a federal road but, like we have always said, the Federal Government does not use any road. So, whether it's Federal or State, it is Abia people that use it. And we are going to fix it," he declared.

The commissioning ceremony marked the completion of several development projects initiated by the Otti administration across the senatorial zone, reflecting the government's commitment to infrastructure development in the state.
