The Intra-Africa GENESII project has announced a call for scholarship applications for PhD and MSc positions across six African universities. The program offers substantial financial support for students specializing in Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Biology, and related fields.
The scholarship provides comprehensive funding with PhD students receiving a monthly stipend of €1,230 and MSc students receiving €890. These stipends include travel costs to and from host institutions and settling allowances. Additionally, research costs, tuition fees, training expenses, conference participation, and insurance are covered by the host institutions.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:
Be nationals and residents of an African country
Be registered/admitted or have obtained a degree from either a GENES II consortium institution (Target Group 1) or another eligible African higher education institution (Target Group 2)
Have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction in host countries
Meet the enrollment criteria of their preferred university
For MSc applicants, candidates must have completed the first two semesters of a Master's program in relevant fields at their home institution. PhD applicants should already hold an MSc degree in Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Biology, or related disciplines.

The consortium includes six partner universities where successful applicants will be placed:

University of Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin
Jimma University, Ethiopia
Egerton University, Kenya
North-West University, South Africa
University of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe
Application Process and Deadline
Interested candidates must submit their applications by July 3rd, 2024. The application package should include a completed scholarship application form along with supporting documents such as a cover letter, research proposal, identification documents, academic certificates, transcripts, and recommendation letters.
