The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) in collaboration with the US Consulate has announced applications for the Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Nigerian Journalists, a program designed to nurture emerging talent in the media industry.
According to a statement released by the US Consulate on Tuesday, the fellowship honors the memory of Adejumobi Adegbite, a respected journalist and former Information Specialist at the U.S. Consulate Lagos, who passed away in July 2023.
The one-year program aims to empower 10 early-career journalists with no more than five years of experience across various media platforms including television, radio, print, and online outlets. Selected fellows will receive comprehensive training in investigative techniques, multimedia reporting, ethical journalism standards, and data-driven reporting through structured workshops and personalized mentorship.
Julie McKay, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate, emphasized the significance of the initiative: "We're grateful to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism for partnering with us to honour Adegbite's legacy in this meaningful way and for inspiring the next generation of reporters to pursue journalism."
McKay described Adegbite as "an outstanding journalist and a valuable member of the U.S. Consulate Public Diplomacy Section," highlighting the fellowship's role in continuing his professional legacy.
The 10 successful applicants will receive mobile journalism tools, expert guidance, and mentorship to produce impactful public interest stories that address pressing issues in Nigerian society.
This initiative represents a significant opportunity for young Nigerian journalists looking to enhance their investigative reporting skills and make meaningful contributions to the field of journalism in Nigeria.
Interested journalists who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to submit their applications for this prestigious fellowship program.
