The Benue State University Teaching Hospital has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations following a deadly attack by herdsmen in Makurdi, the state capital, which left numerous victims critically injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
According to reports, armed assailants launched unprovoked attacks on Mtsewnem and Akondutyough villages in the North Bank area of Makurdi, resulting in multiple fatalities and leaving scores of residents with severe injuries.
Hospital Overwhelmed by Casualties
Tsenzughul Moses, acting Head of Public Relations and Protocol Department of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, confirmed that many survivors are in critical condition and urgently require blood transfusions to survive.
"Following the recent tragic Fulani herdsmen attack early hours of today, many survivors have been rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment. These victims are in critical need of blood to survive," the statement read.
"We are urgently calling on the public to donate blood and help save lives. Please proceed immediately to the Haematology Department, Blood Bank Unit at Benue State University Teaching Hospital to make your donation," Moses added.
The hospital emphasized that public response could make "the difference between life and death" for the victims currently receiving treatment.
Pattern of Violence
This attack adds to a concerning pattern of violence in Benue State, which has witnessed similar incidents in recent months. Previous reports documented attacks on communities along the Makurdi–Naka Road and in other parts of the state.
Local authorities have yet to provide an official count of casualties from this latest incident, though the hospital's urgent appeal suggests the situation remains critical.
BenriNews will continue to monitor developments as emergency response efforts continue in the affected communities.
