Manchester City legend, Sergio Aguero, has taken a cheeky dig at football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, while praising Lionel Messi as one of the best players in the world.
The Argentine believes that Messi's presence will be crucial for the Club World Cup, highlighting the impact his compatriot has had since joining Inter Miami.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Aguero said, "I think this is something that is quite important for Inter Miami, and especially knowing that Leo is there."
"We know that Messi is... Although it may be painful for [Ronaldo's fans], he is one of the players that everyone wants to see," Aguero added, in what appeared to be a subtle jab at the Portuguese star's supporters.
Messi's Trophy Success vs Ronaldo's Saudi Stint
Aguero further emphasized Messi's immediate impact at Inter Miami, noting, "They won a title that, for a number of years [they hadn't], or I don't know if they have ever won anything."
The comparison becomes more pointed when considering that Messi won the Major League Soccer title with Inter Miami in 2023, just days after joining the club. He followed this up by securing the Major League Soccer Supporters' Shield in 2024.
In contrast, Ronaldo has yet to win a major trophy with his Saudi Pro League side, Al Nassr, apart from the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, despite his high-profile move to the Middle East.
This latest comment from Aguero adds another chapter to the ongoing Messi-Ronaldo rivalry narrative that has dominated football discussions for over a decade.
