A severe traffic gridlock has paralyzed parts of Kano metropolis after a petrol tanker fell into a ditch along Gwarzo road on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Rijiyar Zaki when the tanker reportedly lost balance while attempting to offload petrol, plunging into a roadside ditch and causing immediate traffic disruption in the area.

Security personnel have been deployed to the scene to manage the situation, but commuters traveling from Bayero University through the Kabuga road corridor remain stranded as emergency responders work to resolve the crisis.

Emergency teams are currently maintaining a safety perimeter around the accident site to prevent civilians from approaching the potentially hazardous area. A fire service vehicle has also been stationed nearby as a precautionary measure.

Recent History of Tanker Accidents

This incident comes amid growing concerns over fuel tanker accidents in northern Nigeria. In recent months, similar accidents have resulted in devastating consequences, including a recent tragedy in neighboring Jigawa State where multiple casualties were reported after a tanker explosion.

Authorities have yet to provide details on when normal traffic flow will resume or if there are any injuries associated with the current incident.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes until the situation is fully resolved.
