The traditional ruler of Okoloke community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, Pa Dada Ogunyanda, has been freed after spending 27 days in captivity.
Tosin Olokun, the chairman of Yagba West Local Government, confirmed the monarch's release on Wednesday in Lokoja. According to Olokun, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sunday Adeyemi, the Obalohun of Okoloke has reunited with his family and is currently receiving medical attention.
Details of the Abduction
The kidnapping occurred on May 15 when armed men invaded the monarch's palace at approximately 2 am and forcibly took him away. The traditional ruler's abduction had caused significant distress among community members and across the state.
While authorities have confirmed the release, details regarding whether any ransom was paid or the circumstances surrounding his freedom remain unclear at this time.
This incident adds to the growing concern about the security of traditional rulers in Nigeria, with several similar cases reported across the country in recent months.
The Kogi State government has yet to make an official statement regarding the monarch's release or measures being put in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.
