Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly expressed regret over controversial social media posts he made about United States President Donald Trump last week, acknowledging that his comments crossed a line.
In a post on his X platform on Wednesday, Musk stated: "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far."
Deteriorating Relationship
The apology comes amid an escalating public feud that has effectively dissolved what was once a tight partnership between the two high-profile figures. Musk had been appointed to spearhead the budget-slashing Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump's second administration.
The conflict erupted when Musk voiced strong opposition to the Trump-backed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" tax and spending legislation. The disagreement quickly spiraled, with Musk making bold claims last week that Trump would have lost the 2024 presidential election without his support.
Deleted Accusations
Reports indicate that Musk had deleted several inflammatory social media posts over the weekend, including a particularly serious allegation that Trump was mentioned in the "files" of late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The White House promptly disputed this claim.
The public spat has had financial consequences for Musk, with reports suggesting his net worth suffered a significant decline amid the controversy.
President Trump had previously declared that his relationship with Musk was "over" following the billionaire's criticism of the administration's tax bill and subsequent resignation from his government role.
Neither the White House nor Trump's team has yet responded to Musk's public apology.
